OVERVIEW

Penn Entertainment, owner of the Hollywood-branded gaming properties needed a space to accommodate patrons who enjoy smoking while gaming. With Ohio law prohibiting smoking in all indoor areas, Penn Entertainment engaged Lehman Daman to build and expand multiple outdoor smoking and gaming patios, while integrating them seamlessly with the existing casino environment.

CHALLENGES

Smoking and gaming patios have special requirements: most importantly, they must adhere to strict health regulations. With outdoor patios needing unobstructed air circulation, operable louvers were utilized for natural ventilation. To further improve airflow, a mechanical ventilation system was also installed. L/D worked closely with Penn Entertainment to ensure that every aspect of the patios, from the choice of materials to the finishing touches, stayed on budget while meeting regulatory standards.

Additionally, with casinos operating 24/7, construction must occur around patrons. With the outdoor smoking and gaming patio additions extending into the casino parking lot, L/D created clear construction barricades to enclose the space from the public. L/D worked with each property to create alternative routes and ensure the safety of everyone visiting the casinos.

Through effective planning and communication, L/D has consistently completed the outdoor smoking and gaming patio additions and expansions on time, allowing patrons to enjoy their favorite games in a comfortable and secure space that can withstand all elements of Ohio’s weather.
