The Good Haus

Project Overview
The Jefferson Avenue Center was gifted a historic property in Columbus’s Brewery District to use as office space for nonprofits. Originally built in 1888, it stood empty since 2010 and was in a severe state of disrepair. They needed to renovate and expand the space to meet modern office needs, while retaining its historical elements and appearance.

Project Challenges
The age and state of the building presented serious challenges. Lehman Daman had to make the building safe, meet current ADA code, maintain the historical character, and adhere to local design standards. These needs necessitated hazardous material removal during demolition, structural reinforcement, an addition with a 4-story elevator, and even special material sourcing, such as finding matching historic brick from Chicago.
Additionally, the building is adjacent to a school. Lehman Daman developed a three-phase plan to limit disruption, completing that side’s exterior work in the summer.
