Project Overview
First Church of Christ, Scientist, is located in a historic building that needed updating for modern church needs. First Church contracted Lehman Daman to renovate, changing the layout to improve functionality and updating finishes throughout.
The church renovation included a reception area, restrooms, meeting areas, and a new reading room. Modern finishes were used, while maintaining the historical character of the building. A new exterior storefront and columns were constructed to match the existing.

Project Challenges
During demolition, Lehman Daman uncovered severe underlying structural issues and termite damage that rendered the current building unsafe. New joists and bracings were needed, and an exterior masonry wall had to be rebuilt. This work added unforeseen costs and time to the project, including additional approvals and documentation for the city.
Throughout these challenges, Lehman Daman communicated openly with First Church to help them understand the problems and associated costs, including potential cost-saving options, to reduce the financial impact of the additional work.
